The Mona festivals

Since 2009 the  Mona festival is celebrated in Buka - an island some  500 yards north of Bougainville. It is dedicated to the Monas. These are old traditional warrior canoes that were used in the past. The festival is the biggest and most colourful cultural event on Bougainville.
